Pot still design and discussion

my still

Postby bundy » Sun Mar 20, 2011 1:50 pm

have had this pot still for a few years but not got around to using it. would it be suitable for doing grain and molasses washes? I'm wanting to make spirits with some flavor so that i can make rum, whisky & bourbon, any help would be appreciated.
i think the still is a still spirits one but i could be wrong.

Hi Bundy,

That still will work ok for what you want to do with, although you might want to loosely pack some copper mesh in the column to help remove sulphides.

The water inlet is the bottom one on your liebig.

Cheers.

Yeah it'll be fine mate, a bit slow being so small diameter but it will do for a pot still.

Cheers.

Hey Bundy,

Good to catch up on Sat, one thing I forgot to mention with the rubber bung you might want to use a bit of wood dowel instead with a bit of flour paste to seal it. It'ld be better than rubber :)

Next time I come up I'll have to taste test your first rum..........

I'll bring two bottles of mine next time, one for the brother in law and one for you :)
