Postby jdonly1 » Sun Jun 26, 2011 5:40 pm

Fired up the big pig today. The 5Star made 4" stripper.Thought I better get me but into gear and start working through the 1 tone bulka bag of sugar that IO got given last month
Here is a couple of pics.I have it set up on a keg at the moment untill I get the 44 gall drum or the copper boiler I have up and running
Any way here are a couple of pics
1 thing I do need a better gasket from the still to the boiler :x bloody leaks.
Start up out put percentage was 70%

Thanks for the extra pics mate.
Might have to get a gasket or 2 of ya ;) Teflon ones would be the go if they make them, they could handle the heat then ;)

I cut one out of teflon sheet, it's yours if you want it, but i've never been able to get it to seal. The new gaskets don't seem bothered by the heat, i'll stick a couple in with the new column when you're ready, or i could put one or two in an envelope if you like.

It does what 5Star made it to do and does it well,he also built my 2" VM and thats a bloody pearler as well
I just have to get my butt into gear and get this other boiler up and running so I can do larger ferments and start to get a stock up.Time is a big thing as I work pretty long hours and dont have a lot of play time ;)

Next still is going to be a 3" or 4" VM 5Star special again  (hopefully)This should save me a full day on the weekend and hopefully cut a run from 12plus hours to 5 or 6 :D

Hey jd I love the 4in stripper I'm wondering how much power you were giving it on the 50L keg? I'm con cider in a similar build as I'm about to become very time poor.
At present I'm restricted to 3.4kw but have truckloads of cooling.
