I get 4 stripping runs from a 50L keg with my 4" using a 4 ring burner, and a bubbler run from a 9kg bottle ;)

If I just run my bubbler on that burner I get 5 runs from it.

The good part is, stripping a keg full of UJSM only takes about 2 hours :banana-stoner:

If you are after a "cheaper option" then the mongolian might be the way to go, but the old italian spiral with a high pressure reg with put some more serious heat in, this is where I bought mine http://www.beerbelly.com.au/burners.html the mongolian could be connected to natural gas which would be awesome if you are in an area where there is mains gas. (cheap as fuck).

Also check out the other topic of the home made burner from Big Don viewtopic.php?f=24&t=655

Guess it all depends wether you want cheap or fast :D

Both i guess, i'm in the process of building a new bbq, i will be connecting it to natural gas, (hoping to combine the still with the bbq) so how does the mongolian compare with the italian
( sounds like a punch line waiting to happen  )

Kimbo,

Couldn't give you actual times as I have never seen a mongolian in action. But honestly if I wasn't so impatient I would probably have a mongolian attached to my natural gas line (as I look at it every time I am running the still!) as this would surely be cheap as fuck, the only downfall is of course maybe waiting another 30 minutes to an hour to come to boil?

Cheers for that,
the mongolian i saw advertised was boasting 200Mj/h (compared to my 2ring LPG burner which is about 20Mj/h)
i suppose the 200Mj/h depends on the gas pressure i have?

Big Don has that burner topic going and looks interesting but you need to weld the SS up to make it
his also needs a HP reg as well

5Star has those mongo burner tips @ +-$3 each and they could be interesting
i think mongo burners are low pressure so might be "cheaper" as no need to get a extra reg.

i know the mongo's use "black pipe" in the construction but i got NFI about what the pipe is but might do some research
i have NAT gas and would like to get a point put in for me shed and use it now and then if i could use a mongo on it.

i have a Italian spiral and they put out a real good flame on a HP adj reg
i dont have the HP reg yet but often use a mates.
i was talking to a gas guy and he said "just run it from the bottle direct" i am not game but....

Maybe if you were using it to just get up to boil with a massive boiler and in the middle of a 200 acre paddock so you didn't kill everyone around you when you left a massive crater! :laughing-rolling: then switch to a mongolian to keep the heat.

But yeah pressure is directly related to pressure, I cut my boiling time down in half going from a low pressure to high pressure reg (as long as the burner is designed for it)
