I used to do a couple of runs first then yes, water it down to a maximum of 40% but you can add more water to make sure the boiler doesn’t run dry. I does take longer to run a double “stripped” wash back through because you will have twice the alcohol and you’ll be running a lot slower but it does make a difference.

Very interesting read - proper use of Turbo 500. I was previously doing the whole home brew shop still spirits thing to do my neutral spirit. I’ve since gone to TPW and finding it very good. Question is - I have a couple of litres of 43% from the turbo yeast stuff, can I run it through the Turbo 500 with a TPW and will it improve it?

Hi guys
I tried your trick of packing the column with ss scourers put 5 in as suggested now, now being very new this is what's happened got to about 45degs started dripping I thought great then it was purging and came out this colour, to my understanding that's a bad coloured mash.
I'm using a t500 as well sry didn't say at the start

Thanks blucs
But I stopped run quarter the way through took the ss scourers out put back original ones started still up again and now coming out at 93% and Cristal clear, the way I look at it didn't pack the scourers properly I gather ??

Over packing or uneven packing will cause a puke in the T500

Hi Everyone

Need help please !

Been reading the last 3 weeks on here especially with Doubleuj great posts !

Got my first TPW into T500 today at 1pm.

Everything double checked , notes ready , water regulator set , jars sterilised.

1pm turned the boiler on and was quite surprised it got to boil on the hour.

2pm temp at 48 degree and got the drip starting so i discarded the first 350 ml.

Then the drip drip drip dribble began and i was stoked !

Jar 1 - 1420
Jar 2 - 1440
Jar 3 - 1450
Jar 4 - 1510
Jar 5 - 1520
Jar 6 - 1540
Jar 7 - 1600
Jar 8 - 1615
Jar 9 - 1640
Jar 10 - 1720

Now was experiencing just a continuous drip.

Jar 11 - 1810

Now at this stage I am thinking the drips will stop and boiler will be empty and i can chuck my other batch straight in.

Jar 12 - 1930 THIS SMELT ABSOLUTELY PUTRID.

Now i thought maybe I raise the temp to 55 just to finish off as the tails will be put back into the boiler at a later date.

The drip stopped so thought it was finished....

Went to lift up the boiler to make sure and was horrified to find it quite heavy ?

Thought i would bite the bullet so turned everything off...i drained off 15 litres of wash !!

WTF has happened ?

Total noob with the still although been brewing beer for 10 years.

Please if anyone can give advice it would be greatly appreciated as i have no idea.

Much appreciated,

The Tip rat.

Are those numbers size of cuts? For a start your cuts are way to big for 25l wash you only want 200-300ml per jar from a 25l wash tpw you prob would keep 2.5l....trust me 3 weeks reading is nothing I am 4ish years in and only scratched the surface.. each part of makeing spirits is a lifelong job managing still /cuts /ageing /blending. There is no shortcuts and absolutely nothing happens fast. Relax take your time and most of all enjoy what you do...and merry xmas :handgestures-thumbupleft:

My bad did you strip first? 25l 40%? If so prob keep 6-8l 96%. But your cuts are still too big drop them down to 300ish ml..

Hey Tip Rat,

Just reading your post. The temps you said she boiled at was “48” degrees. I assume that was 48c column temp. If so, that is extremely low temp. Second thoughts.... you may be referring to condenser water “out” temp??

Hey Roy,

Thanks for the reply mate...

Yeah I read keeping it between 45-50 with the 48 being a success.

yes mate that is the water out temp, so where am i supposed to be taking the temp if the probe goes in that spot ?

Much appreciated Roy

Should i keep the wash too and just chuck all the cuts back in and boil up again tomorrow ?

Back again Bluc...so if I do a strip first that is to go quickly isn't it and then the next run is the spirit run where you take the cuts ?

I think you are on the right track with the temp probe location. Not sure about the re-boil idea - will bow to the more experienced :?

I’m confused, sounds like you had a perfect run.
12 cut jars @ 200ml each is 2.4L, which is bang on all the alcohol available in the wash.
Jar 12 should smell putrid, it’s pure tails.
15L out of the boiler is just your Dunder, tip it down the drain.
Remember the wash you put in is only 9% alcohol or there about, the rest is mainly water which won’t boil off.
Temps sound perfect
Take off rate sounds perfect
I think you nailed it.

Unless I’m drunk and missing something 8-} it is Christmas after all :obscene-drinkingchug:

I thought the bugger had to be empty ??

Please feel free to take the piss out of me cause i can take it lol
