Alcoengine / Pure spirtis Reflux

I just got an alcoengine which i think is an exact copy of the Pure Spirits column, same manufacture maybe?
The top of the column has a couple of small holes around where the condenser pipes go through the column wall; the top of the pipe is capped off.
The cap is pop riveted (copper, or at least copper colour) in place so would not be air tight.

I'm wondering if the two small holes are sufficient to let out any possible vapour?
Should i drill a couple of holes in the cap?

My, (limited) understanding is that a VM the column top should be fairly open ?

Re: Alcoengine / Pure spirtis Reflux vent in top of column ?

I tried to edit but dont know how so......

I said it was VM but im not sure what term to use.
I know it's water cooled at a constant rate and off take is controlled by opening the let off valve

If it's the same as the Pure Distilling version, it'll be fine.

I have one of the Pure Distilling reflux stills. They do a reasonable job. The holes around the water inlet and outlet are fine for venting purposes. The coil condenser is only small and does the job it was designed for. (Just) If the product is coming out too warm, increase the water flow and/ or cut power to the boiler back a smidge. Don’t forget this still was designed to run on the 2000w boiler that you can purchase with the unit. Throwing extra power at it would not be a good idea. It’s a reasonable reflux to start with but I find the column is too short. Wish I knew about 5 Star and this site before I started. In saying that, it has produced some reasonable neutral.
