Just running my first spirit run with my Boka with 22 litres of 38% CFW. Heated up to 78c then backed off power to maintain temp. Refluxed for 30 mins before collecting. I read in another thread here about running a Boka that the guy half packed the column for spirit runs. So I packed the top of the column with 3 scrubbers. Product is coming off at 91%. Is this a bit high for a spirit run?

That's around the abv that my 3 plates put out.

The flavour will depend on how much reflux your using to get there.

Grab a blanket for your boiler, your heat up times are mind numbing lols

I agree with the heat up times. Got a couple of 2400w elements and a keg which will soon fix that issue.

Finally managed to get the salt out of my first coil. Had to cheat. I drilled a 4mm hole at the bottom of the coil right in the middle of the outer and inner coils. The outside coil cleared quickly blowing out of the hole but the inside still sat for about 3 days under constant water pressure and boiling in my boiler. Eventually it gave way. I then just cut a small copper patch and soldered over the hole. Hooked up a hose and timed the flow. Exactly the same as the second coil that was filled with water but flattened a bit. Both 4.5 litres a minute. So I now have a spare coil.

Thats awesome. Better than scrapping it altogether.

Definitely. Interesting to know that the flow was no different between the 2 although the water filled one flattened marginally. I guess even though it flattened it still had the same area as the round one.

Hey mate, Just for S&G's could you try the same water source through a straight piece of pipe? :-B

Hey RC
Well I had 5 metres of 1/4” left over from my coils which was how much I used to make them. I straightened it out, Hooked up a hose and measured flow. 4.5lts per min. Same as both the coils I made.
