Turning pot into reflux

Postby kingy » Sat Jul 23, 2022 8:02 am

After a bit of advice, after running my pot still for years my misses wants me to make some vodka I was thinking of cutting a little bit below the elbow on my pot still and putting a couple of tri clover fittings then I could put In reflux condenser. I'm actually saving up for milk can and a 4inch pot still and build on that but in the meantime I'd like to keep making my whisky and some vodka for the misses, to help me get approval for upgraded lol.

Yep , you’ll need to go taller, add packing and a condenser.
Or just run a clean wash through the pot 4 or 5 times
Oh and I removed the double post :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks I didn't think it would be that easy.
The current column is 500mm. So I'd just add packing to that and put in a rc about 500mm as well?

Hi Kingy

I had a very similar pot still to what you have. I built a Boka section to add to the top of it.
It made a very good neutral.
I documented my build in another thread if you want to check it out.

Cheers Steve

I did a WBAB wash mate through my pot still, did the usual cuts. I did a few f these washes and they were not generational as I wanted a wheat vodka but not too strong.

Then when I had enough hearts I put them all together for another spirit run with yet more cuts. I liked the results and some prefer it to the vodka I produce through the 4 plate bubbler. It’s a bit more work so really depends how much you missus wants to drink but it is an option

Thanks guys,I've decided not to try and convert my pot still. The misses gave me the green light to get a new still, going to get a modular copper 2 inch hybrid with an offset gin basket. Can still make my whisky but play around with neutrals and gin to.
