Next Upgrade from T500 ? Suggestions?

Postby ginandtonic » Wed Jun 18, 2025 10:20 pm

Thank you all,
I have a T500 reflux still with standard packers sitting on top of a 500mm column ( 2 inch of course) which is full of copper mesh.
Im pretty happy with the quality of product it produces - the extension was a suggestion made on this forum - and it has made an improvement !
however, what I would really like to improve / increase, is the takeoff speed !
Sticking with the trickle, trickle drip " rate " - but its a long bloody day !
Looking at options / upgrades, to reduce spirit run times ?
Regards,

as far as i know, you can't really speed things up, and retain quality, unless you increase the column diameter.
i am also stuck with a 2" column, if i increase speed (by increasing power) i will smear everything.
a 4" column would be ideal if you want to speed things up.
i sharing your frustration at the moment, as i have returned to work for a lay-off and i'm having trouble fitting in a full day on a FFV spirit run.

Yes, yes, My thoughts also, but searching for maybe something in between ?
My next upgrade will most likely be a 65 litre digiboil, with controller ( I have 15 amp socket )so at least I can get up to boil quicker.
This bigger boiler should also be useful when I do go bigger in the still department.
Would be interested to now how much faster the off take would be with 4" setup ?
Are we talking double the speed ?
