Oyster Shell Gin

Oyster Shell Gin

Postby AJH1 » Fri May 09, 2025 7:23 pm

Hi all, my wife tried a gin at a distillery, oyster shell gin. She wants me to give it a try, what are your thoughts, shells in the pot when I run in pot still mode or should I put the shells in with juniper plus other ingredients and let it macerate for a week or so?
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks
Adrian

If you can afford to, why not try both? Ideally on a small scale like an air still

i'd love to try it one day, maybe if i see it behind a bar.
i've not tried any of those 'beach' gins yet, manly spirits coastal citrus gin, isle of wight mermaid etc.
not sure about the oyster shell though.
if it imparted any flavour, would we use it to control PH?
i presume it only dissolves in an acidic solution, so would just soaking or in the pot do anything?
is the oyster shell thing a gimmick?

I think I like your idea marls, one way to see if it does anything. Try both ways and compare.
