Also, I’ve just remembered, when it was first wired up, he gave it a real quick plug in to make sure it worked & proceeded to burn his fingers on it.

I don’t really know if I should put this here or in the “tell us your fuck up” section...

I started thinking about voltage drop from the wall to the power board, then to the still. Given they’re only household leads, I cut out the middle man & went straight to the power point (I didn’t think it’d reach yesterday, but it just makes it). It started heating again & after a short time, I could hear the element working. You beauty.
This I where dumb gets dumber.
Very happy with the mornings success, I decided to put some music on & start cleaning the shed. The iPod dock wouldn’t turn on. After seeing it’s unplugged, I sorted that & still nothing...
The reset button on the power board had tripped.   :violence-shootself:

I’m an idiot. Sorry for starting this thread & thanks for all your help guys. I’m off to run my first wash through
Cheers

Glad you got it sorted :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thought it was strange as I have not heard of a single 5 Star element failing :-B

Good idea not to use a power board plus leave the plug where it can be turned on by mistake.

The element probably maxed out the powerboard just by itself. If you had anything else running off it then it would certainly have done the trick.

Well, I’m back up inside, out of the cold & in front of the fire... I ended up with 10l. I wouldn’t have a clue how to pick your water flow going by the alcometer in the parrot, but it ran well. After having a t500, this still is amazing. I used to have to spend the day sitting in a chair in front of the still, constantly watching the thermometer & playing with the super sensitive tap I got with it. Today, I hardly touched the tap & when I did, I shouldn’t have. I got a heap done in the shed too & the smell was sensational.
Basically, I’ve been getting around like a half frigged off dog all arvo. I’m pumped but also want to give myself an uppercut for not asking earlier.
Now to buy some more 60l fermenters next time we visit the in laws & start a production line.
Thanks for all the advice

:laughing-rolling: remember:"It's not a mistake unless you repeat it!"

I keep telling my kids, its how we learn - by mistakes! Something we forget as Adults, where we think we should never make them or to make them is a terrible thing...

You will keep this lesson with you for ever!

And your not alone! I made a very similar discovery (read all about it in the F-up thread) where I wasted nearly a day until i discovered a lead was OoS... :violence-smack:

The beauty of these posts is that the next guy that has this problem can recall it as well and not repeat it... hopefully.

Ok, one more question. Now I’m ready for a spirit run, how do I tell the temperature? My alcometer tells me what percentage is coming out, but is still don’t get the temperature part of this kind of still. I even played around with the tap for water flow in the last strip run but I couldn’t see a difference.
Thanks

Run by the parrot, forget about temp :handgestures-thumbupleft: do you have a power controller?

No power controller here, what do they do? (control power I know), but in what way?

So just turn the water up until the alcohol flow slows right down to a minimum? That’s what I was going to try.
I’m finding it hard to go with the trial & error to find out what works for myself when I won’t know for 6 months... there’s a lot of shit brews to be made in that time if I don’t get it right at the start

All the answers to your questions are already here on the forum, some really good solid hours reading here will help you a lot more than a few direct answered questions that don't elaborate on any theory behind it.

Sorry if I sound like a dick but thats the truth. :romance-kisscheek:

You can’t sound like a dick when trying to help someone mate, i appreciate any help that’s given.
I’ve done a few searches but have came up short.
I’m a direct supervision apprentice unfortunately, lots of stupid questions to get the info straight from the horses mouth, but that’s how I learn best if I’m not being shown in person.

Start in the newbies corner mate the answers to those wuestions are all in there. Don't skip through the topics, read all of them and sooooo many questions will be answered. Until such time as this hobby is legal you'll find it hard to get anyone to show you the ropes in person. You'll be fine mate, trust me I'm a dumb shit and I've worked it out :laughing-rolling:

Spirit run has been done, cuts made & on oak. I’m having a sample of the leftover white at the moment & it’s beautiful just like that! 6 months can’t go quick enough.
Thanks again for all the advice
