Homemade parrot

Postby Fatguts » Thu Jan 31, 2019 5:54 pm

Ive been doing a fair bit of research on parrots and decided to make my own. This is not my design but it was the one that caught my attention as it can be drained after each cut to reduce smearing. It took me a full day to make. To my surprise, there were no leaks. All soldered up with Bernzomatic lead free solder and flux. So far I have made a shotgun condenser and this parrot. Im a lot more confident to tackle the remaining build on my still. Cheers.

If u can make something as good as that then u have the skills to make a 4plater :handgestures-thumbupleft: a parrot without a drain only belongs on a stripping still, u researched well :handgestures-thumbupleft:

That's some really nice work Fatguts.

Are you sure it's deep enough for your alcometer? It looks quite short in the picture but that could just be a perspective thing.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I dont get much time to do things like this due to other commitments but I work on the principal of "if at first you dont succeed...try again." It took all day to make due do the numerous F ups I made but I repaired them as I went. The main outside tube is 32mm and the internal is 25mm. I made the internal tube 10mm longer than the length of my alcometer. At this stage ive only got a a short alcometer from the local home brew shop. I intend on purchasing a better alcometer soon. I took this into account and also made an extension for the internal tube which just tightly slips over the top, giving the necessary height needed. Obviously I haven't tried the extension part yet but I cant see any reason why it wont work? Please let me know if this is a stupid idea.

Looks great. Fantastic job.
I'm looking at maiking one as well. More for the fun of it than anything else.
Mine will be a little different but I do like the tap to reduce the smearing and the way it connects back to final product path. Going to have to incorperate that :D
Did you anneal and manual dimple where the 1/2" pipes enter and leave or did you butt up and solder?
Cheers, and thanks for the insperation.
