100L Boiler ?

Boiler, burner and boiler modification talk.

I've seen commercial still for bourbon that runs two separate kettles/pots into a single column and parrot. I'm not sure about the logistics of building it, but it's surely possible to get 2 keg boilers running to the one column.

Geese, finding 2 different circuits is hard enough imagine having to have 4.
Possible on a hobby scale but probably not practical for a lot of us.

Two joined boilers=Boiler thumper setup. Definately has its advantages but also has its down side. If you go this way make sure you know what your doing and make sure you have all safety aspects covered..

Very nice. Is it hard to balance with two inputs into one column?

I'd have to imagine you'd only run both to strip, which is probably pretty efficient. The column and plates would have to be bigger than they appear to handle a spirit run, I would think. Those pots are about 500L, with the bottom of the manway being about shoulder height. I remember this being headed for a bourbon distillery, but I couldn't tell you which one anymore.

Ended up making it from stainless scrap tube. $400 at the stainless shop to have the top and bottom welded on with ferrules. Pretty happy with it but will convert to electric as it’s chewing the gas

Just have a 4 ringed burner at the moment. 2 hrs heat up and need it almost flat out to fill the plates which I am not really happy with. Couldn’t get my 3rd plate to load today so might do a strip down. So nice to be able to do 100 litre runs though

equipment: Eve - 4" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (sieve plates), 330 mm packed section on a keg boiler with 2 x 2000 W elements.
Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

Not while on gas. Unless there is a fireproof way to do it. Wonder how long a 3600 watt and 2400 watt element would take to heat it.

Theres a calc in the calculators page for that, funnily enough 5000w to 80l = 96 mins 100l = 120mins

The big burner i got from kegking/land will get fores starting in less than 30 mins on 45l of 8% in a regular keg -thats with much gas wastage though i believe, more work on shrouding to be done for me, according to the calc you would need 9000w to do that with electricity - would translate back to 53 mins on 80l
I do wish I had an element for spirit runs though, the burner is really too big for a regular keg and adjustments are very hard with small boiler charges, have an 80 to get working atm

Would you need 9000w? Isnt an element directly in liquid much more efficient?

Maybe a bottom shroud and some wool bats for insulation will help
