Blending different recipes?

Postby MattSmith » Sat Nov 18, 2023 4:46 pm

Advice please

I have 7 litres of Hearts of the Appalachian sweet mash recipe from the Tried & Proven section. I followed the recipe so it’s mostly grain and a little sugar.

I then decided to use the spent grains for a sugarhead. I added 4 kg of corn to it plus 24kg of sugar (raw sugar because I didn’t pay attention in Woolies).

I’m stripping that now. The 7 litres will only come to 10 ish litres at 55% and I was hoping to fill a 20lt keg for aging.

Should I (would you?) blend the sugarhead hearts in to make up the volume?

No reason you cant. Keep couple litres seperate in a jar to aip straight. Mix rest with sugar head it will certainly improve it.
Its already a thin mash (if sugar is used) so your not losing much.

Btw a sugarhead from mashed grain is way better then raw lots more authentic flavour. imho...
