Do it all grain mill

I am thinking a high torque drill with high/low gear box. I have done prob 100k of corn a 20 odd k of barley with 18v cordless but when it grabs it kills my shoulder. This time drill will be strapped down. Have to work out a clutch system..

My thoughts are,ifn ya had a compresser air rachet or drill may work ,as they donot burn out under hard loads like some electrical tools will,and if you play around with the pressure to change speed and torque you might save ya arm abit of stick as well.cheers hillzabilly ;-)

Just to noisy where i am. I worry about the heat up sound of my boiler. Let alone a noisy compresser attracting attention... :oops:

I killed my 18v cordless from doing just barley, at a guesstimate about 250kg through it. I bought a dedicated cheap 240 volt one :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yea 240v strapped down is what i am thinking. 18v cordless "freehand" works but kills my joints when it grabs.. :crying-blue:

I reckon it's worse when it grabs and you don't have hold of the mill and shit goes everywhere :laughing-rolling:

I have not yet ventured into the grain side of things but am keen to attack the next level and this will be the wrong place to ask, but, how fine do the grains need to be...Flour? or a bit chunkier.
I would have thought a similar thing to what Hillz showed, eg. a meat mincer 'may' work,if you are prepared to manually grind away and if the size is not crucial. Also, it appears you guys have used some serious volumes of grains, so i suppose i should look up the 'how to' grain section. Thanks, if you reply.(coz i would be the first to think...look it up lazy.)

Depends do you plan to ferment on grain then squeeze out liquid after fermentation if so fine should give you better starch conversion, reduce corn (and general ceareal mash) gelatinization time. Coarser grind will be better for sparge. (Pour water through grain bed to release more sugar) If you sparge you dont have to mess with squeezing you also dont ferment on the grain.. (you can then make a sugarhead with the spent grain. I did full 5 gens last time and there was plenty flavour) Give you couple methods to check out :handgestures-thumbupleft:

i assumed from my limited knowledge that you do exactly that, ferment on grain then cleanup/squeeze. Thx... (seems like a heap of work though.) just read recently that a Yank stiller just does CFW, divvies it up with the family and they dont know it is not the traditional whisky...may be a Plan B...stick with the CFW. Unless u convince me otherwise, my fiend.
