You should still get the hint of wheat with the packed section, only 4 plates will be full on flavour.

So mine has finally arrived! Testing out with 5kg corn and 1.2 kg of raw barley as it’s all I had. Added about 25l water. Will have 2 of these fermenting at 30 deg. Sound about right? I added 50g of the yeast to each

I have been doing 50g per 10kg grain. Hopefully I wont scorch this one so I get some backset and can put down a sour mash tomorrow.. 8-}

just mixed up gen 2 of corn barley rye 70%/20%/10%. Used 20% backset ph of 3.78 with grain and backset added. Maybe bit low we will see what it does by volume after I run it. Back in couple weeks :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I'm 3 days in on a 10kg wheat malt grain in 50ltr wash added 90grams of the angel yeast and have stirred everyday for the 1st 3 days. I have a heat stick in it at 30 degrees. Has a nice cap on top and lightly bubbling away. Grain is very soft and mashed up. SG was 1040 which i thought was low. Today its approx 1.01. Did an iodine test and it failed hasn't converted as of yet. How long has anyone left their wash for? I have to go back to work monday and won't be back for a week.

It dose say 10 days in the instructions - it dosent convert it all to sugar and then start munching, it all happens at once in increments, there will be starch there right up until it finishes and you really wont get a consistent sg reading subsequently

My current wash of malt barley and malted rye is about 5 days off 4 weeks and still chugging along at 22ish degs. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hey bluc.. sippin on the first spirit run as we speak.
Ran the straight barley. Has a strong caramel/ butterscotch/ sweet smell with the underlying earthy/ grassy malt smell.
This stuff taste soo much like my AG i did the normal way a year back just with the slight grassy/ earthy flavour.
Dont think ill be going back to the old way anytime soon. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Awesome and good to know sprouting and mashing works also. Without drying kilning blah blah...

It would be interesting to get another ferment going with the same barley but unmalted and compare flavours.
I thought not kilning the grain might of effected the flavour profile but at this early stage i dont think so.

How long are people letting it ferment? Mines been 6 days at 28 degrees in the fermenter and has really slowed now. I milked the corn and barley pretty fine. Might leave it a few more days? It’s reading .995 on the hydrometer. Not sure if that means anything with this stuff

Week down on sour mash and I think activity is more prominent then non sour mash. This time I added the ispindle at end of day 3 when I finished agitating. You be the judge.

Nice bluc, was going to say that looks way different to the last one, but then i had a look at the spreadsheet from the first one, and its actually similar behaviour.

Just for S&G could you set the polling time down to 30 sec or a min for a few hours, interested to see what the short term swings are
I also wonder about "baggage" bubbles on the ispindle? Thinking about it you would need a extremely smooth surface for them not to catch/settle on the outside of it?

I have read even with clinging bubbles the ispindle is more accurate then a hobby alcometer. Next round will adjust the interval. I want this round to compare non sour to sour.. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi Guys,

I bought some of this stuff a few months ago off ebay - it arrived today already opened by ABF - they just slit a hole in the side of it, so it's leaking everywhere. My question is how do I now best store it, in a ziplock bag and put it in the fridge or is it OK to just leave at room temp sealed up?
